Embark on an exciting journey from Piano Provenzana, nestled at a lofty 1,800 metres on the northern flank of Mount Etna. Traverse the rugged terrain in special 4x4 off-road vehicles, expertly guided by professional Alpine guides authorised by the Etna Park Authority. Your first stop is the “Umberto and Margherita” craters, perched at approximately 2,380 metres. Here, you can take a brief trek along the rim of these two enormous extinct craters.

Next, venture towards the volcanological observatory, situated at an altitude of 2,818 metres. After disembarking from the vehicles, a short but invigorating 15-minute trek commences. This will lead you to the summit of the Pizzi Deneri promontory, standing tall at 2,850 meters. If the weather permits, you'll be awestruck by panoramic views of the Aeolian Islands, the Jonic coast stretching from Syracuse to Taormina, the gulf of Giardini Naxos and the Calabrian coast.

Finally, return to Piano Provenzana, completing your thrilling expedition. This tour offers the chance to experience the raw power and majesty of Mount Etna – a remarkable testament to Mother Nature's grandeur.

Mount Etna Tour to 2900m from Taormina

You'll be driven to Rifugio Sapienza, then swap to a cable car and 4x4 vehicle to reach the main crater at about 2,900m above sea level. And after pick-up from your hotel you'll be driven to about 1900m above sea level at Rifugio Sapienza on the south side of Etna, where you'll hop off the bus to unearth some more.On the way you'll learn all there is to know about Mt Etna and its explosive past. And don't worry – there'll be plenty of facts for the little ones to take in, too. Then, you'll get to see it all for yourself during some free time. Switch to a cable car and jump into an off-road vehicle that'll take you rumbling along to the main crater. You'll want your camera for this one.

Full-day Valley of the Temples and Scala dei Turchi tour

Two of Sicily's highlights are in the spotlight on this full-day tour. You'll visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Valley of the Temples, an archaeological site that's loaded with what's left of seven 2,500-year-old shrines, including the Temple of Concordia – it's ranked as one of the best-preserved Greek temples in the world. Afterwards, you'll head to one of the top ten most unique coastlines as named by TripAdvisor – Scala dei Turchi. Giuseppa, one of our expert local guides, says “the Valley of the Temples is landscaped with lots of flowering almond trees, another staple of Sicily, that will really add something extra to the photos you take here.”First up is one of the largest archaeological sites in the world, the immense Valley of the Temples in Agrigento. It packs in the remains of seven temples perched on a high ridge, all of which you'll see, including the ruins of the Temple of Zeus and Concordia Temple at the end of the Sacred Way. The temples here are over 2,500 years old, so there are a lot of pages in the history books to uncover. You'll be given headphones to hear your guide, too, so you won't miss any details.Afterwards, you'll make your way to the bright white Scala dei Turchi, a natural limestone staircase that is dug into the cliffs and weaves its way down to the sea. You'll have some time to unwind and go for a swim before heading back to the hotel.
